Dr. Aronson is the founder, president, and CEO of PeriOptions. In addition to 34 years in academic medicine at the University of Chicago and Duke University, he was president of a private multihospital anesthesia service corporation and vice president for surgical drug development with the Medicines company. He earned an MBA with concentration in Health Sector Management at Duke University Fuqua School of Business. As Executive Vice Chairman for Anesthesiology at Duke, he focused on business development and strategic planning. Having written over 300 manuscripts, chapters, including 6 textbooks, he is a recognized expert in echocardiography, perioperative blood pressure risk, perioperative medicine, and healthcare strategy. He served on the FDA Anesthesia and Life Support Advisory Committee and Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee. He is an elected fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Heart Association, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and elected member of the Association of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and Association of University Anesthesiologists. In 2017, he received an adjunct professor appointment from University College London and in 2019, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award for perioperative echocardiography from the American Society of Echocardiography. He was president of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology and founding trustee member of the National Board of Echocardiography. He is Chair for Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine-USA and serves on the board for the International Board of Perioperative Medicine. He serves on the board for Durham Boys and Girls Club of America.

Dr. Mythen is Chair of the MAB. He is one of the founders of perioperative medicine and the Smiths Medical Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at University College London; Elected Council Member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists; Chair, Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM). Founding Editor-in-Chief of Perioperative Medicine; Editorial Board British Journal of Anaesthesia; Founding Editor-in-Chief TopMedTalk; Founding Director Perioperative Quality Initiative (POQI). In addition, Dr. Mythen’s previous appointments include: 2001-2002: Clinical Director, Critical Care, UCL Hospitals NHS Trust, 2002-2008: Head of the Portex Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Respiratory Unit at UCL, the Institute of Child Health. Melissa is Vice President for Medicare at Aurrera Health Group. She is a health plan senior executive with expertise in the development and implementation of payment models. She has extensive experience in both the public and private sector for the design and implementation of alternative payment models for health care providers participating in the Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial insurance programs. She joined the CMS Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) at its inception in 2011 and drove the design and implementation of payment models across the care continuum including Pioneer ACO, Next Generation ACO, Bundled Payments for Care Improvement, Comprehensive End-Stage Renal Disease Care, Value Based Insurance Design, and the Medication Therapy Management Model. She led the rulemaking process on the expansion of Pioneer ACO into the Medicare Shared Savings Program, the Advance Payment Model Section of the Medicare and Chip Reauthorization Act and was the CMS liaison for the revised SAMHSA 42 CFR Part 2 Rule. She was responsible for management of the Center’s 10-billion-dollar budget and investment portfolio. From 2018-2021, she was Vice President of Payment Innovation and Strategy at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield where she led value-based contracting. Melissa received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a law degree from Fordham University and a master’s in public administration with a focus on health policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is a member of Chief, a network focused on supporting and connecting women leaders and a legal volunteer for HIAS.

Dr. Kirk is Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief for Duke University Health System. He is the David C. Sabiston Jr. Professor of Surgery and a professor of immunology and pediatrics. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for the American Journal of Transplantation. He is internationally recognized for work in transplant immunology serving as the inaugural Chief of the Transplantation Branch for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and principal investigator for multiple clinical trials, including the first-in-man experience with novel immunosuppressive agents. Dr. Kirk pioneered the use of co-stimulation pathway blockade to prevent organ rejection in transplant patients.

Dr. Englesbe is the Cyrenus G. Darling Sr. & Cyrenus G. Darling Jr. Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan, who’s interest include frailty, prehabilitation, opioid use, patient regret, and patient reported outcomes and surgical appropriateness. He has funding for his work from the National Institute of Health, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Use and Mental Health Administration, Center for Disease Control, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan.

Dr. Sweitzer is dual trained and boarded in anesthesiology and internal medicine. She is Systems Director, Preoperative Medicine, Inova Health, Falls Church, Virginia. Dr. Sweitzer is an author and the editor of Preoperative Assessment and Management. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts and over 30 book chapters. She lectures internationally on preoperative medicine and ambulatory surgery topics. She hosts a monthly podcast for Anesthesiology. She is the Executive Editor of A&A Practice, and on the editorial board of Anesthesiology and Anesthesia and Analgesia. Dr. Sweitzer was President of the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA). She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, an elected member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists, a founding member of the Governing Board and past President of the Society of Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement. She is a member of the Society for Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Steel was chief resident in anesthesiology at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He served as the medical director for the Perioperative Surgical Home Learning Collaborative 2020, has been Director of Anesthesia Services at White River Health System for over 9 years, served as the Chief Quality Officer, Chief of Staff, and is currently the Chief Medical Officer. He also directs anesthesia services at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He co-founded Current Prevention LLC, a company created to help small businesses improve their employees’ health. He is the Chief Medical Consultant for Community Business Resources, whose clients include: medical clinics, health systems, anesthesia management companies, anesthesiology groups, ambulatory surgery centers, healthcare software-as-a-service companies as well as non-healthcare-related companies.

Professor Peden is Executive Director of the Center for Health System Innovation. She was a Professor of Anesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and University of Chicago before becoming executive director for clinical quality at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and providing clinical quality leadership and expertise for the 35 BCBS companies. She was named Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health, Innovator of the Year in 2016 for her work in improving outcomes for high-risk surgical patients. Carol is a Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and has helped design and lead quality improvement projects around the world. She is Chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Brain Health Initiative and was awarded the 2016 Ellis Gillespie Professorship of the Australia & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, and the 2014 Macintosh Professorship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Dr. Kennedy is the founder and President of CDIMD, a Nashville-based physician and facility advisory and consulting firm that advocates clinical documentation and coding integrity essential to healthcare revenue cycles and quality measurement. As a coding and clinical documentation integrity (CDI) expert with over 20 years of experience and as a frequent speaker to medical staff, Health Information Management (HIM) and CDI associations, Dr. Kennedy is nationally recognized for his subject matter expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving approach. He has been designated as a Certified Coding Specialist and Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner by the American Health Information Management Association and as a Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist by ACDIS. Dr. Kennedy authored AHIMA’s book on MS-DRGs in 2006-2007,and has served on the advisory board of the American Clinical Documentation Improvement Society (ACDIS).
